Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

This text represents an inventory of sacred objects, which were probably placed in a shrine (of a temple or palace). As such, it may be considered a palace or a cult inventory; the colophon, however, which would be of great help in classifying the fragment, is not preserved. Given the sacred nature of the listed objects it has been included in the corpus of the cult inventories (see Cammarosano and Marizza 2015: 170-71).

The fragmentary incipit of the tablet mentions the “Storm god of Ḫattuša” and the “Gods of Ḫattuša” (i 1-2, for the latter ones see also i 10). Noteworthy are the mention of a “house of the king” (i 8), of “tongues” (i.e. slander?) of the priests which are to be “rectified” (lazziye/a-) by the “lord” who arrives first (i 12-13), of the need to “rectify” previous faults (i 14-15), of the dignitaries Šarpa-Runtiya and Pallu[ … ] (i 18, iv 6′), of the king of Tumanna (i 21, see Cammarosano and Marizza 2015: 170-72), and of “captives” (iv 29′).

i 1-2: Cf. i 10.

i 3: In the attested forms, neither ḫuniktari (from ḫunink- “to batter, crack”) nor niniktari (from ninink- “to transfer”) are ever spelled with the sign NE. The sign on the tablet ends with a vertical, hence the proposed restoration.

i 5: The sequence ŠÀ MEŠ (with some space in between) is unclear, but the reading cannot be collated on photo.

i 14: Cf. DAAM 1.39 i 7-8.

i 15: SIG5-anzi conveys *laḫḫiyaḫḫanzi or *laḫḫiyanzi and probably takes waškuš as its object (CHD L-N 51).

iv 6′: Possible PNs are Palluwa, Palluluwa, Palluwara, Palluwaraziti.

iv 8′: The nature of the professional designation LÚšarmeya- and its possible relation to the wild animal called šarmiya are unclear, see CHD Š 278-79.
